Mourning Cloak, Nymphalis antiopa — an original color pencil drawing reproduced as a giclée print.
The Mourning Cloak is remarkable among North American butterflies for its extraordinary lifespan — adults live 11 to 12 months, the longest of any butterfly on the continent. It overwinters as an adult, often emerging on warm winter days before spring has fully arrived. Larvae feed on the leaves of hardwoods including elm (Ulmus spp.), willow (Salix spp.), cottonwood (Populus spp.), and birch (Betula spp.).
